Uppal-Gate 2008: The Fight Continues

Anything that was wrong with a nomination process is entirely addressed by running as an independent and giving people a choice. They had a choice, they made that choice. They chose Uppal in a fair and democratic process. But Jim Ford has decided that the fight between himself and Tim Uppal isn't over. Jim's justifications for going on?"He's a bad character, he doesn't deserve to be there.""I started this because of the lack of political ethics and I think I should stay on it," Ford said. "As a personal need, but also because my campaign workers, all of the people I talked to on the phone overnight and today at the Chamber of Commerce meeting, they're all saying don't give up on this, go for it."So it's not the ethics of the party anymore. Now it's the ethics of the candidate. He claims he only lost because of a cash infusion to Uppal's campaign from Conservative headquarters. Maybe. But so what? You have a problem with how difficult it is for independents to get elected in this country? Me too. But you were a part of the most powerful political organization in these parts. What did you do about it? Nothing. What are you proposing to do about it? Nothing. You still think the nomination rules are unfair? Me too. What did you do about it until someone gamed the system? Nothing. After someone gamed the system, you intentionally ran for an office that couldn't solve the problem, and resigned any office that could.I want to believe better of Mr. Ford, but I'm finding it harder and harder to believe that his problem is with the democratic process, and not just Tim Uppal.
