This report says that the Alberta government has decided to
stop publishing a pamphlet for grade 7 students on going through puberty. When asked why, the government spokesperson responded that their department was focussed on other things, like the syphilis breakout in the province.Notably, the syphilis advertisements say that if you have sex outside of a single monogamous relationship, you might be at risk. There is another ad that has been put out as a public service by some other organization, which says that if you are sexually active you are at risk. The second ad is correct. First, monogamy is a two-way street. You are at greater risk of contracting the disease if you think you are in a monogamous relationship and you're wrong. Second, if your single monogamous partner had syphilis when your relationship began, it makes no difference that you're monogamous. So the Alberta government has stopped telling grade 7 students about sexually-transmitted diseases so that they can lie to all Albertans about one disease in particular? It's becoming harder and harder to apply Hanlon's razor favourably with regard to the Stelmach government.
