An insider's look at the future of Alberta politics

For almost a month now, I've been involved in this group of people that has been called the "futility faction", the "revolution group", the "edmonton group", and any number of other silly things. This is the group of people that Daveberta has recently blogged about being involved in. Dave was the one who invited me to join.I haven't mentioned being involved before now because the group has asked for a degree of discretion from its participants. That secrecy has helped create some uncertainty and intrigue around what this group is, who's involved, and what it stands for. That uncertainty is actually an accurate representation of the group. The group is not monolithic. We have people who have different ideas about the role we should play, and how we should play it. And we haven't made any decisions. We are just a group of people dissatisfied with the state of democracy in this province who have decided to put Albertans first, listen to one another, and take action. We don't know what it is we're going to decide to do, if anything. But we want to do something, and we're still talking about it. Joining the PC party is the only thing completely off the table.Anyone who says anything more than that, or different than that, is misinformed or worse. What comes out of it remains to be seen. But I'm excited by the quality of the people, and the quality of their contributions. I'm proud to have been involved in it for the last little while, and I sincerely hope something comes out of it that I can be proud to associate myself with into the future. As you know, I have my thoughts on what needs doing. But I think the more Albertans of every political stripe (and especially un-striped Albertans) we include in the conversation, the better the outcome will be. So if you have thoughts on what direction this group should go, you know where the comment link is.
