Bag-of-Hammers Dumb

The LPC's Renewal Committee came out with a number of proposals that I think were right on target.  The right things to do, not just the easy things to do.  I commented before on how that result was bemusing to me, because I have long since given up caring what happens to the LPC.Well, the national executive decided that of all of the proposals made by the Renewal Committee, only one would see the light of day at a convention: the one-member one-vote leadership process.  The rest were voted down.  That was dumb.  And not just because the proposals would have helped. The situation they've left themselves with is that in the absence of a leadership race, and in the absence of a meaningful policy discussion, the LPC wants people to spend over $1000 a shot and go to Vancouver so that they can ... wait for it ... re-do a vote that was soundly defeated in Montreal.Don't get me wrong.  I think OMOV should be adopted, and as long as it isn't I applaud anyone who brings it forward to try again.  But this is the only substantive decision that is going to be made at this convention.  The only one.And this decision - the decision of whether every member of the party should be given the right to vote in leadership races, or whether that right should belong only to those people lucky enough to be convention attendees - will be made by ... wait for it ... convention attendees.  The only way OMOV is getting adopted at this convention is if Iggy comes out personally in favour of it.  So really, we could just let Iggy decide, and all stay home.Let's all hold our breath, shall we?I hope for the LPC's sake that the convention facility in Vancouver has the ability to shrink the hall to match the number of attendees.  Because I predict attendance at this convention is going to be a serious embarrassment for the LPC.  Which means they will probably lose money.
