Fewer than 1/3 of Canadians Prefer the Existing Electoral System

This out from Angus-Reid. Only 32% of Canadians surveyed, given the option between the existing system, or systems of proportional representation, prefer the one we have.One-quarter or respondents weren't sure what they wanted. The remainder were split between a fully proportional and a mixed-member proportional system. It's disappointing that those are the only options Angus-Reid made available, but it still makes an important point.

Lawn Signs

I thought it was difficult being a Liberal in Alberta.Woe is Liberals in Toronto, evidently.I asked for a Liberal lawn sign in my riding about 5 weeks ago. Haven't gotten it yet. Not sure how to feel about that, now.

Conservatives Will Investigate Electoral Reform

The Edmonton Journal reports that Rahim Jaffer, Conservative MP for Edmonton-Strathcona, has announced that the Conservative Party of Canada will strike a committee to investigate electoral reform, including Proportional Representation.

Second Choices

Nanos has finally released some of the second choice numbers that it’s been collecting all along. I love crunching second-choice numbers.I decided to see what would happen if the election were a single vote between the five parties, and the winner was being decided by a single-transferrable vote system.
