"Sinking Ship"

It's a Fine Distinction

Uttered while correcting my 3-year-old's pronunciation: "It's pronounced Light Sabers."

Wisdom of White Stripes

I was listening to an "At Issue" panel on my iPod today, and ran across a familiar irritation. I commented on Andrew Coyne's blog about it to attempt to address it at the source. What is it? Canadians can't vote for a majority, or vote for a minority, or against either of those things. They don't have the power, they don't have the information.

Blog in Green For Fairness

The "Consortium" has decided that Elizabeth May, leader of the Green Party, will not be allowed to participate in the television debates. Why?Not because they are a fringe party, they had 10% in recent polls. Not because they don't have any MPs. They had one switch over just before dissolution. Not because they don't have any "elected" MPs. That criteria wasn't applied to the Bloc in their first debate. Not because they aren't an official party federally. They won enough votes to get federal funding annually.

Change is coming...

It's looking good for Elizabeth May in the debates, and for getting some semblance of colour consistency back onto my site. :)

Well, that didn't last long

Score one for fairness. Now if only we could convince people that the electoral system is just as significant an affront to democracy, we might get somewhere.Now.. where are those font colour settings...

Attack Ads

I complain a lot about the changes that need to be made in politics. One complaint you won't hear me making is that politics is too dirty, that we need to "raise the level of debate" or such things.Don't get me wrong. I'm a big fan of high-level debate. Big fan. But there is a difference between preferring a way of doing something, and believing that it can realistically be the only way used.

Uppal-Gate makes front-page news

In the local community paper, anyway. Catherine Griwkowsky shares the background of the scandal with local readers, and breaks the news that Jimmy Ford has decided to stop being so negative, and start being more positive.
