Stelmach's Tories Turn Back Clock

This report says that the Alberta government has decided to stop publishing a pamphlet for grade 7 students on going through puberty. When asked why, the government spokesperson responded that their department was focussed on other things, like the syphilis breakout in the province.Notably, the syphilis advertisements say that if you have sex outside of a single monogamous relationship, you might be at risk.

The Black Swan, or On the Sources of Bullshit

I was going to write a review of this book, but I haven't finished it, and I simply can't wait.

Black Swan Redux

Well, I've finished reading The Black Swan. As I mentioned, the first half of the book is basically looking at all of the ways people make bullshit arguments. The second half of the book then quickly and succinctly demonstrates that Gaussian statistics are, in many cases, bullshit.

Harper Discovers Principles

Many of my favorite bloggers are having a field day with Harper and his "so sue me" line with regards to backing out of the Atlantic Accord.First, let me say that from what I've heard, he's trying to back out of backing out. I don't know how exactly you do that, or why that's better than, just, you know... doing what you said you were going to do, but whatever. I want to give "credit" where it is due.

My Entry in Cerberus' Poster Contest

See the poster contest link, here. Here's my (admittedly weak) entry.

Redonkulous

I think I've answered the most recent, but I'd like your feedback.I was thinking about the most recent election in Calgary-Elbow, and the election two elections ago. Two elections ago, Conservatives got around 10000 votes, and Liberals got around 5000. This election, the Conservatives got around 4000 votes, and the Liberals got around 5000.

What I Believe

I went to university in part to discover something about myself. I wanted to place my own understanding of the world into a category - to find my philosophical team, as it were - so that I could read more of what those people had to say, and learn where like-minded people had taken their understanding of the world.
